‍ ‍Whole Health: All of You

Why Women's Health Requires More Than Healthcare

A woman's health is influenced by far more than doctor's visits and medical treatment. Factors such as housing stability, access to nutritious food, transportation, economic security, social connection, safe environments, and emotional well-being all play a critical role in health outcomes and quality of life.

At Centers of Wellness for Urban Women, we recognize that true wellness requires a whole-health approach. By addressing the physical, emotional, social, spiritual, environmental, intellectual, and occupational dimensions of wellness, we help women build healthier lives, strengthen resilience, and overcome barriers that impact their well-being.

CWUW has developed a program for women and their families to have space to address trauma, learn coping tools, and build social networks for support and understanding.

Power of Retreat has multiple components:

  • Sounding and Grounding sessions: Sound therapy teaches people how to relax, focus, and meditate using sound. Grounding teaches people to keep focus through techniques such as breathing and may include a connection with the outdoors.

  • Day Wellness Seminars - The Retreat: These are full-day retreats so that the participant will learn about trauma, how it impacts their lives, and learn tools to apply daily. Yoga, meditation, sound therapy, journaling, and more!

  • Psychological First Aid Training: Psychological First Aid (PFA) is an evidence-informed approach built on human resilience. PFA aims to reduce stress symptoms and assist in a healthy recovery following a traumatic event, natural disaster, public health emergency, or even a personal crisis

Creating a Culture of Wellness for Every Woman

At Centers of Wellness for Urban Women (CWUW), we believe health is about more than medical care. A woman's well-being is shaped by her physical, emotional, social, spiritual, environmental, intellectual, and occupational wellness.

Since 2007, CWUW has helped women in urban communities overcome barriers to health by providing education, support, resources, and connections that strengthen every dimension of wellness. We meet women where they are, honor their experiences, and empower them to take action toward healthier, more fulfilling lives.

Because every woman deserves the opportunity to thrive.

7 Dimensions of Wellness encourages women to seek stability within all dimensions to support healthy living.

All CWUW programs incorporate the 7 Dimensions of Wellness. You will always learn how to balance your well-being through these dimensions, no matter which program you attend.

Adult coloring is a powerful tool that can help a person to quiet down, focus, and improve motor skills. We offer monthly adult coloring events free of charge. We provide coloring pages and materials so you can take this time to be creative, focused, and calm. Coloring and Conversations also offer an opportunity to chat with other women. Sometimes, we just need a low-stress activity and be with others.

Life Rhythms

Life Rhythms is a women-centered health education and support program focused on reproductive, maternal, and hormonal health across the lifespan. The program creates space for women to better understand their bodies, make informed health decisions, and navigate care with confidence.

Through culturally responsive education, trusted referrals, and wrap-around support, Life Rhythms addresses topics such as menstrual health, pregnancy planning, postpartum care, contraception, and overall reproductive wellness. The program recognizes that reproductive health is deeply connected to mental health, access to care, and everyday stability, especially for women facing systemic barriers.

Life Rhythms supports women in honoring their bodies, understanding their cycles, and advocating for the care they deserve, because informed women are healthier, stronger, and better supported in every season of life.
